Welcome to the Compassionate Care in Medicine Blog!

Hello, and welcome to the Compassionate Care in Medicine Blog! This purpose of this blog is to serve as a forum for reflection and conversation surrounding the topic of compassionate care in medical practice. This topic is a very important one for pre-medical students, medical professionals, patients, families of patients, and for our society as a whole.

The Ruth M. Hillebrand Center for Compassionate Care in Medicine was founded in 2011 to advance the scientific theory and practice of compassionate care in medicine and promote effective communication skills in physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals at every level of training and practice. One of the goals of the Ruth Hillebrand, after whom the Center was named, was to create a blog through which students could share and reflect upon their medical experiences--whether in a volunteer setting, during a shadowing experience, as a patient, or in any other medical context. We hope that this blog will both make her dream a reality and serve as an important tool for all invested in this important topic.
